Project Goal
To strengthen the research capacity of the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (UTCB), developing interdisciplinary skills and promoting the exchange of knowledge between different fields.
General Objective
Supporting national research-innovation from different complementary fields to address urban sustainability challenges, thereby creating more resilient and future-proof urban communities.
Major Objectives
MO1: Improve collaboration and partnerships between UTCB and other research institutions, industry, public sector, other relevant entities to support innovation and knowledge transfer.
MO2: Developing transdisciplinary research capacities in UTCB: strengthening and expanding research capacities in complementary areas: buildings, energy infrastructure, urban planning, mobility, economic environment, nature-based solutions, social, environmental quality, health, etc.
MO3: Implementation of the New European Bauhaus concept in UTCB research projects, combining sustainability, aesthetics and inclusiveness to transform urban spaces into models of innovation and functional design.
MO4: Increasing international impact: enhancing the role and visibility of UTCB/Romania in research and innovation through significant contributions in the field of urban sustainability.
MO5: Promote sustainable, climate neutral and resilient urban development through extensive co-creation campaigns, awareness raising and communication of research results to citizens
Executive Summary
The CATALIST project aims to support transdisciplinary applied research in sustainable urban development that includes an energy-efficient built environment and energy-efficient communities, and is one of the core principles at the heart of the New European Bauhaus.
This will strengthen the research capacity of the Technical University of Constructions Bucharest (UTCB), developing interdisciplinary skills and promoting knowledge exchange between different fields. Through the Horizon Europe WeGenerate project (code 101123546) UTCB will develop a pilot project on urban regeneration with a focus on the creation of Sustainable Energy Communities, and the CATALIST project will contribute to the development of institutional research-innovation on urban climate and sustainability challenges through the complementarity of the proposed supporting actions.
By applying the concept of the New European Bauhaus, the CATALIST project will support the collaboration of the newly formed teams with the international scientific community and give a new dimension to the WeGenerate project. Through this extended collaboration, the project will facilitate the creation of international partnerships, which will increase access to global resources and expertise.
The CATALIST project will also be complementary with other European and national projects in which UTCB participates HE EU-CONEXUS ENABLES, H2020 DivAirCity, HE ReGreeneration, and H2020 nZEB Ready. Through the experience gained, UTCB is a partner in the National Center of Competence and Solutions for the Development of Climate Neutral and Smart Cities (NetZeRoCities), leader of the Smart and Sustainable Buildings component project, a consortium funded by the PNRR.
